In keeping with the intellectual and spiritual legacy of Father Stanley L. Jaki, after whom our Society is named, we believe it is important to respond to Pope Leo XIV’s call encouraging all Catholic organizations to engage actively with and reflect on his first encyclical, Magnifica Humanitas.
As a signatory to the Vatican’s Rome Call for AI Ethics, our Society has also committed itself to promoting and disseminating Catholic reflections on artificial intelligence. From the perspective of both Father Jaki’s intellectual legacy and the Benedictine Archabbey of Pannonhalma, the founder our Society, it is also particularly significant that the encyclical, drawing on the example of Saint Benedict, reaffirms the identity-shaping dignity of human work and draws substantially on monastic spirituality.
The Encyclical offers a broad and highly contemporary reflection on AI, establishing the document’s significance well beyond the Catholic Church. It can serve as genuine and substantive ethical guidance for all people of good will.
